Cyanotype and alternative print making - currently is a projected rooted to my personal practice.
My artistic practice includes making Cyanotypes of botanicals or of my photographs by making negatives using an ink jet printer. This practice is playful and I am not aiming for perfection. I use new and recycled water color paper, coating my paper using a Japanese Hake brush to give my mark making more texture and to see the the brush marks on the edges of the emulsion. I pay attention to the UV index, and keep track of time while looking for the color changes. This process is a way for me to relax and to breath new life into my archives.
Another practice that I adore is working with found botanicals or any old flowers that I have in a vase. I take them apart and layer them on top of my photographic prints. I light the new piece with the window light or a vintage Fresnel light to create more dimension and to bring out the colors. The practice of layering reminds me of collage, but it is more free and not permanent.
