KATHLEEN PACE, ARTIST

 About Me

Hi, I’m Kathleen Pace—a photo-based artist and educator. My work explores themes of resilience, transformation, and the connection between nature and the self. I started my photography business back in 2010, working with newborns, families, weddings, and small businesses. For years, I focused on creating meaningful portraits for others. But everything changed after I had a stroke in my early 50s—suddenly, photography became something more personal, more essential.

In the last few years, I’ve turned the camera toward myself and started creating work purely for the joy of making. My practice blends analog, digital, and alternative photographic processes, including cyanotypes, lumen prints, and layered self-portraits. I’m drawn to the beauty of decay, the symbolism of nature, and the quiet power of transformation.

Since stepping into this new chapter of art-making, I’ve had the honor of exhibiting my work both locally and abroad. In 2025, I held my first solo show, Beyond the Surface, at Skylight Gallery in Hillsborough, North Carolina. My images have also been shown at FotoNostrum in Barcelona (where I received an Honorable Mention for the Julia Margaret Cameron Award), Praxis Gallery in Minnesota (juried by Aline Smithson), the North Carolina Museum of Art through Click Photo Festival, and Midwest Nice Gallery. I was also proud to be featured in Sola Journal’s Still I Rise zine, curated by Alice Oliver of the Royal College of Art in London.

Alongside my art practice, I teach photography to students of all ages. I’m passionate about empowering others through storytelling, experimentation, and creative expression—whether it's in the classroom, the studio, or out in nature with a camera in hand.

In addition to teaching, I’m still available for portrait sessions and commissioned work. I photograph families, children, teens, and adults—both on land and underwater. While women and girls have often been the focus of my personal projects, I welcome clients of all genders and backgrounds.

Looking ahead, my upcoming projects will center on communities directly impacted by shifting policies around Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. I believe photography has the power to challenge, to honor, and to heal—and I’m committed to using it as a tool for both art and advocacy.
